As the CEO of GR1T Motorcycles, I attended EICMA 2024 in Milan with two clear goals: to connect with potential suppliers for our prototype and to explore the evolving electric motorcycle landscape. What I found was a vibrant showcase of innovation, competitive energy, and clear signs that our positioning at GR1T is exactly where it needs to be.
Lightweight Off-Road Electric Motorcycles: A Growing Segment
One of the most visible trends at the show was the abundance of lightweight electric motorcycles aimed at off-road riding. Inspired by the likes of the Sur-Ron Light Bee and Talaria Sting, these bikes were all over the exhibition halls—light, aggressive, and clearly targeted at a younger, thrill-seeking demographic.
Many of these bikes came from established Chinese manufacturers as well as fast-moving startups. There was no shortage of low-cost imitators hoping to ride the wave of popularity sparked by the pioneers. While affordability is a strength, quality and long-term customer satisfaction remain open questions for many of these brands.
Urban Electric Mobility: A Sharpened Strategic Focus
Amidst the noise of scooters and off-road concepts, I found clarity in what we’re building. Some of the most buzzworthy models at EICMA were two electric concepts from Honda—a street bike and a scooter. They were sharp, modern, and widely admired among industry veterans. This reinforced our decision to develop a premium urban electric motorcyclerather than chase trends in an increasingly crowded off-road space.
Urban electric mobility is at a tipping point. Cities across Europe are tightening emissions regulations and encouraging zero-emission transport. Yet there’s a clear lack of high-quality, commuter-focused electric motorcycles designed for real riders. This is where GR1T sees an opportunity: a bike that combines performance, design, and sustainability without compromise.
GR1T’s Place in the Electric Motorcycle Market
At EICMA, I could immediately see how GR1T stands apart. Our prototype features a 27kW peak power motor, removable and upgradeable batteries, and an A1 license requirement—making it ideal for city riders who want agility, power, and range. We’re also integrating Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 4K security and riding cameras, smartphone connectivity, and real-time theft protection notifications.
GR1T’s focus is not just on specs—it’s about redefining what a smart electric motorcycle should be. Durable materials, premium design, and carefully sourced components make our bike more than a mobility solution—it’s a daily companion built to last.
Networking, Inspiration, and a Bit of Star Power
EICMA was also a place to reconnect. I had the chance to run into some legends from the motorcycle world—Ola Stenegard from Indian Motorcycles being one of them. Conversations like these remind me why I entered this industry in the first place. It’s full of passion, vision, and constant reinvention.
I left Milan more motivated than ever to complete our prototype and prepare for our official relaunch. The experience confirmed that we are building something meaningful, and that our approach—blending form, function, and future-ready features—is what the market needs.
See You at EICMA 2025!!
With new supplier contacts and fresh insights in hand, we’re now doubling down on development. Our plan is to unveil two GR1T prototypes at EICMA 2025, meet potential partners, and show the world that innovation doesn’t need to sacrifice soul. We’re even planning an exciting competition giveaway—so stay tuned.
